A consistent frame makes a feed look like a brand

Scroll a well-run Etsy shop or Instagram grid and you will notice the photos share an edge: the same thin white border, the same rounded corners, the same polaroid strip with a caption. It is a small thing that makes a collection of phone shots feel designed. Add Border / Frame applies that edge to one photo or two hundred, with the same settings on every image, and downloads the batch as a ZIP.

How it works

Four styles cover almost every need when you add a border to a photo:

  • Solid draws a flat border of any colour around the image. Classic white on a product photo, black for a gallery look, or a brand colour.
  • Rounded adds the border and rounds the corners. Choose PNG output to keep the corners transparent, or JPG to fill them with a background colour.
  • Polaroid uses a wider strip at the bottom, the way instant-film prints do, with space for a caption.
  • Gradient blends two colours across the frame for social graphics and sale posts.

Set the width in pixels for an exact result on a single size, or in percent of the shorter side so a batch of mixed sizes gets a visually identical frame. Presets give you one-click starting points such as thin white, thick black, soft rounded and polaroid. Every change re-renders the preview, and the results grid shows the before and after file sizes.

Why it matters

Borders are one of the few edits marketplaces explicitly forbid on primary images. Amazon lists borders alongside text and watermarks as not allowed on the main image, eBay's picture policy says no borders on listing photos, and Daraz rejects bordered product images. So: no frame on the first photo for Amazon, eBay, Daraz or TikTok Shop, and read the eBay picture requirements before framing anything there. Where frames shine is everywhere else: Etsy lifestyle shots, Shopify collection pages, Instagram (1080×1080), Pinterest pins, email banners and blog images. A 2 to 3 percent border, about 20 to 30 px on a 1080 px post, is enough to separate a photo from a white page without looking heavy.

Tips

  • Pad photos to square first with the Square Image Maker so the frame is even on all sides.
  • For profile pictures and round product badges, the Round / Circle Crop tool adds a circular border instead.
  • Polaroid frames pair naturally with a caption: run the batch through the Text on Image / Caption Tool afterwards and place the text in the bottom strip.
  • Stamp a logo in the corner with the Watermark Tool after framing, so the mark sits inside the border.

  • Keep the radius under 10 percent of the shorter side; larger values start to look like an app icon rather than a photo.

Frequently asked questions

Pixels or percent, which should I use?

Use percent when framing a batch of mixed sizes: a 3 percent border looks identical on a 1080 px and a 4000 px photo. Use pixels when you need an exact value for a single template, such as a 24 px border on 1080×1080 Instagram posts. Percent is measured against the shorter side.

Are borders allowed on marketplace product images?

Not on the main image for Amazon, eBay, Daraz or TikTok Shop, all of which ask for a plain product on a white background with no borders, text or graphics. Frames are fine on secondary lifestyle images, Etsy, Shopify pages and social media. Keep an unframed original for the primary slot.

How do I keep the rounded corners transparent?

Choose PNG as the output format. JPG has no transparency, so the tool fills the corner area with your chosen background colour instead, which works fine on a white page. WebP also supports transparency if you want a smaller file for your own website.

What is a polaroid frame?

A white frame with equal sides and a much taller strip at the bottom, imitating an instant-film print. It suits handmade, vintage and lifestyle products on Etsy and Instagram. The bottom strip is intended for a caption, which you can add afterwards with the Text on Image / Caption Tool.

Does the border change the image dimensions?

Yes, the border is added outside the photo, so a 2000×2000 image with a 50 px border becomes 2100×2100. If you need an exact final size, resize after framing, or subtract the border from the source size beforehand. Nothing inside the photo is cropped or scaled.
