Round / Circle Crop
Crop photos into a circle or rounded shape with a transparent background. Perfect for profile pictures, logos and avatars. Batch, free, in-browser.
How to use the Round / Circle Crop
- 1Drop one image or many.
- 2Choose circle, rounded or ellipse and set the output size.
- 3Add a ring border and pick its colour if you want one.
- 4Process and download transparent PNGs or a ZIP.
Profile pictures, shop icons, team avatars and logo badges are all circles, yet every camera and design tool hands you a rectangle. Cropping a circle by hand in an image editor means a marquee, a mask, a transparent layer and an export dialogue. The Round / Circle Crop tool does the whole thing in one step: crop image into circle, rounded square or ellipse, output a transparent PNG, optionally add a ring border, and repeat for a batch. It is the fastest circle crop image workflow for a seller with more than one avatar to make.
How it works
- Drop one image or many.
- Pick the shape: Circle, Rounded (with an adjustable corner radius) or Ellipse for non-square sources.
- Set the output size, for example 500 px for an Etsy shop icon or 400 px for a profile photo.
- Add a ring border if you want one: width in pixels and any colour, including brand colours.
- Process, then download individual PNGs or the ZIP.
The tool centres the round image crop on the shortest side, so a 3000×2000 photo becomes a 2000 px circle taken from the middle; use the Image Cropper first if the subject is off-centre. Everything outside the shape is fully transparent, not white, so the result sits cleanly on dark or coloured pages.
Why it matters
Circular avatars are the norm across marketplaces and social profiles, and a round profile picture prepared as a real circle avoids the platform cropping through your logo or your face.
- Etsy shop icons are 500×500 px and profile photos are 400×400 px, both displayed as circles in search and on the shop page.
- Amazon storefront and brand logos, Shopify theme avatars and TikTok Shop profile pictures are shown round as well.
- Sellers who reply to reviews, post in community groups or run ads appear as a small circle far more often than as a full image, so the crop should be composed for that size.
Note the format rule: a transparent PNG is right for profile images and badges but wrong for an Amazon main image, which must be JPEG-style on pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255). Keep circles for branding, not listings.
Tips
- Shoot or choose images with the subject central and at least 20% breathing room; a circle removes about 21% of a square's area, all of it in the corners.
- Use Rounded with a radius of 10 to 20% for app-store-style product tiles that still show the full image.
- A 2 to 6 px ring in your brand colour makes the avatar readable on both light and dark backgrounds.
- Batch-crop a whole team or product line at the same size for a consistent grid.
- For off-centre subjects, crop to 1:1 first with the Image Cropper, then run the circle crop.
- Turn the circle into a favicon or app icon with the Favicon & App Icon Generator, or add an outer frame with the Add Border / Frame tool.
- If the original background is busy, cut it out first with the Background Remover so the circle contains only the product.
Privacy
Masking is done in your browser with the Canvas API. Your images never leave your browser, and no copy is retained after download.
Frequently asked questions
Is the area outside the circle transparent or white?
Transparent. The output is a PNG with a real alpha channel, so the circle sits cleanly on dark, coloured or patterned backgrounds. If you need a white square instead, for example for a JPG-only upload, place the circle on white with the Add Border / Frame tool afterwards.
What size should a shop icon or profile picture be?
Etsy shop icons are 500×500 px and profile photos 400×400 px. Most social and marketplace avatars display at 110 to 180 px but store a larger version, so 500 to 1000 px is a safe export size. Set the output size in the tool once and batch every image at it.
Can I add a coloured ring around the circle?
Yes. Set a border width in pixels and choose any colour, including a hex code for your brand. The ring is drawn inside the output size so it is never clipped, and it works with rounded and ellipse shapes too. Between 2 and 6 px suits most avatars.
What if the subject is not in the centre?
The tool crops from the centre of the shortest side. For off-centre subjects, run the Image Cropper first, select a 1:1 region around the subject, and then circle-crop the result. This two-step approach also lets you control exactly how much breathing room surrounds a logo.
Can I use a circular image as an Amazon main image?
No. Amazon main images must have a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255) and show the full product, and transparency is not allowed. Use circle crops for profile pictures, brand logos, badges and social media, and keep listing images rectangular on white.
