Make an official passport photo at home for 16 countries

Photo studios charge for a set of prints and still get rejected when the head is too small or the background is the wrong shade. The Passport Photo Maker turns a phone photo into a compliant passport size photo online: pick the country, upload, and on-device face detection crops to the official head-size rule while an on-device AI model swaps the background for the exact colour that country requires.

How it works

The tool finds your face, estimates chin and crown, and crops so the head height lands in the middle of the allowed range with the eye line where the rule puts it. Nudge the crop if you prefer.
The background is replaced with the country colour: white for most, light grey for the UK and Schengen presets.

The remaining presets (UAE 43×55 mm, Australia 35×45 mm, China 33×48 mm, Japan 35×45 mm, Nigeria 35×45 mm, Philippines 35×45 mm, Turkey 50×60 mm, Malaysia 35×50 mm) follow the same pattern. At 300 DPI a 35×45 mm photo is 413×531 px and a 2×2 in photo is 600×600 px.

Why it matters

Head size is the most common rejection reason. The US wants the head between 25 and 35 mm and the eyes 28–35 mm from the bottom edge; a NADRA photo wants the face filling 70–80% of the frame. The maker measures those from detected landmarks rather than by eye. Background is the second reason: a uk passport photo on pure white, or a Pakistani passport photo on studio blue, can be sent back. Rules change, so verify with the official source linked on each preset before you print.

Tips

Stand about a metre from a plain wall, face a window, and ask someone else to take the photo at eye level. Even light means no shadows for the model to clean up.
No glasses for the US, UK and Saudi presets; neutral expression, mouth closed everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Does the NADRA photo preset use a white or blue background?

The Pakistan preset uses plain white, which is what the passport office and online MRP portal expect, and produces a 413×531 px upload under 100 KB. Some NADRA CNIC forms ask for light blue; make the photo here, then run it through the Blue Background Photo Maker.

How accurate is the automatic head-size crop?

The face detector returns eye, nose and chin landmarks, and the crown is estimated from them, so the crop lands in the middle of the allowed range, for example around 60% for the US 50–69% rule. Check it visually and drag the crop if your hairstyle changes where the crown sits.

What photo should I start with?

A sharp, front-facing photo taken at eye level with your whole head and shoulders visible and some space above your hair, in daylight against a plain wall. A 12-megapixel phone photo is plenty. Avoid selfies at arm's length, which distort the face.

Can I print at home?

Yes. Download the 4×6 in print sheet, which lays out several copies at 300 DPI with cut lines, and print it at 100% scale on photo paper. Most chemists and photo kiosks also print a 4×6 in from your phone for a few rupees or cents.

Is the digital version accepted by online portals?

It matches the pixel size and file-size limit stored for that country, such as 600×600 px under 240 KB for the US DS-160 or 350×350 px between 10 and 300 KB for Indian forms. Portals update their limits, so verify with the official source before submitting.
