Online visa and passport portals are strict about uploads: "600×600 pixels, under 240 KB" or "350×350, between 10 and 300 KB". Upload a normal phone photo and the form rejects it for size, dimensions or both. How it works

Compression is a binary search on JPG quality, so the output sits as close under the cap as possible. Presets with a minimum, such as the Indian 10 KB floor or the China 40 KB floor, are respected too: the tool will not over-compress into a rejection.

Why the numbers matter

Portals validate mechanically. A 601×600 file fails the DS-160 check as surely as a 4000×3000 one; a 9 KB Indian visa photo is rejected as too small, not accepted as efficient. Portals do change their limits, so verify with the official source before a submission that carries a fee.

Tips

  • Start from the highest-resolution original you have; a 350×350 crop from a 12-megapixel photo is sharp, while the same crop from a WhatsApp forward is mushy.

Frequently asked questions

What does the DS-160 preset produce?

A 600×600 px JPEG under 240 KB on the crop you approve, matching the US DS-160 and DS-11 online photo tool, which accepts 600×600 to 1200×1200 px. Make sure the background is white or off-white and the head fills 50–69% of the height, which the Passport Photo Maker can set up first.

Why does the Indian e-Visa preset have a minimum size?

Indian e-Visa and Passport Seva uploads require a JPEG between 10 KB and 300 KB at 350×350 px. Files under 10 KB are rejected as too small. The resizer aims just under 300 KB at high quality, so the output sits safely inside the window.

Can I use it for the Pakistan online passport portal?

Yes. The Pakistan preset outputs 413×531 px, which is 35×45 mm at 300 DPI, as a JPEG under 100 KB, the limit the online MRP and visa portals typically apply. Verify with the official source if the portal quotes a different figure.

Does it change the background colour?

No. It detects the face, crops to the preset ratio and compresses to the KB limit; the background stays as photographed. If the portal requires white or light grey, run the photo through the Photo Background Colour Changer or the Passport Photo Maker first, then resize here.

Can I process photos for several family members at once?
