Print your own passport photos on 4×6, A4 or Letter paper

You have a compliant passport photo file. Now you need six physical copies, and the photo shop wants to charge for a "session", or the home printer scales the image to fit the page and every copy comes out the wrong size. The Passport Photo Print Sheet solves the layout problem: it places 2 to 12 copies on a 4×6 inch, A4 or US Letter canvas at exactly 300 DPI, adds cut guides, and exports a JPG, PNG or PDF that prints at true size.

How it works

Upload the finished photo, ideally the 300 DPI output from the Passport Photo Maker or the Visa Photo Resizer & Size Reducer.
Choose the paper: 4×6 in (10×15 cm), A4 (210×297 mm) or US Letter (8.5×11 in).
Set the photo size (35×45 mm, 2×2 in, 50×70 mm, 33×48 mm and so on) and the number of copies, from 2 to 12.
Turn on cut guides, pick JPG, PNG or PDF, download and print at 100% scale.

The sheet is rendered at 300 DPI, so a 4×6 in page is 1800×1200 px, A4 is 2480×3508 px and Letter is 2550×3300 px. Photos are spaced with a small gutter, and thin trim lines sit in the gutter so cutting along them leaves no line on the photo.

A 4×6 print with 8 copies of a 35×45 mm photo is the cheapest route: most photo kiosks and pharmacies print a 4×6 for a few cents or rupees, which works out far below a studio set. This passport photo 8 copies layout is the default when you pick 4×6 with a 35×45 mm photo, and it is the standard way to print passport photos 4x6.

Why 300 DPI and PDF matter

Passport offices measure the printed photo in millimetres. A file at 72 DPI, or a printer set to "fit to page", changes the size and the head measurement with it. Rendering at 300 DPI and saving as PDF locks the physical size: a PDF page of 4×6 in stays 4×6 in whatever software opens it. Choose JPG only when a kiosk will not take PDF, and then make sure the kiosk prints borderless without scaling.

Tips

Use glossy or satin photo paper; several countries, including Canada and Bangladesh, require lab-quality photo paper rather than plain office paper.
In the print dialog, set scale to 100% or "actual size" and turn off "fit to page" and any margins the driver adds.
Print one sheet, measure a photo with a ruler, and only then print the rest.
Run the source file through the ID Photo Compliance Checker before printing; a sheet of twelve wrong-sized photos wastes paper.

Privacy

Frequently asked questions

How many 35×45 mm photos fit on a 4×6 print?

Eight. A 4×6 in sheet is 152×102 mm, so four columns of 35 mm and two rows of 45 mm fit with a small gutter between them. Choose 4×6 and set copies to 8 for the standard layout that most photo kiosks print for the price of one snapshot.

Why do my printed photos come out the wrong size?

Almost always because the printer or viewer is scaling the page. Use the PDF export, open it in a proper PDF viewer, and set scale to 100% or "actual size" with "fit to page" off. Also print borderless on 4×6 paper, or the driver may shrink the sheet to leave margins.

Can I mix two different people on one sheet?

The tool lays out copies of one photo per sheet so that every copy is identical and correctly sized. For two people, make two sheets, or use 4×6 paper with fewer copies each and cut them apart; that is still cheaper than two studio sets.

Which paper size should I choose?

4×6 in when you print at a kiosk or pharmacy, because that is the size they stock. A4 or US Letter when printing at home on photo paper. All three are rendered at 300 DPI so the photo dimensions are identical; only the number of copies and the paper cost change.

Does it support 2×2 inch US photos and 50×70 mm Canadian photos?

Yes. Any size from the passport specs can be placed, including 2×2 in (600×600 px at 300 DPI), 50×70 mm for Canada, 33×48 mm for China and 50×60 mm for Turkey. Six 2×2 in copies or four 50×70 mm copies fit on a single 4×6 print.
