How to use the Image Cropper

A camera frames the scene; a marketplace frames the thumbnail. Those two rectangles rarely match, and the difference is where products get cut off, wonky horizons stay wonky and a set of ten listing photos ends up with ten different shapes. The Image Cropper is a crop image online tool built for that job: precise handles for one photo, fixed ratio presets for consistency, and a batch mode that will crop to 1:1 or any other ratio across a whole folder in one pass.

How it works

  1. Drop one image or a whole set.
  2. Drag the handles on the preview, or type exact X, Y, width and height in the numeric fields.
  3. Lock a ratio preset: 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16, 2:3, free, or a custom pair such as 5:7.
  4. For a batch, switch on Apply ratio to all and pick an anchor (centre, top, bottom, left or right) so every image is cropped to the same ratio from the same side.
  5. Download the single crop or the ZIP.

Single-image mode is pixel exact: the numbers you type are the numbers you get, and a custom output size lets you resample the crop to, say, 2000×1500 on the way out. Batch mode is deliberately simpler; it crops to the ratio and anchor you choose, which is what you want when the products were shot in the same setup. That is how you batch crop images without opening each one.

Why it matters

Ratios are the one image property a seller cannot leave to chance, because most platforms crop automatically and not always kindly:

The Amazon fill rule is the reason cropping matters even on white backgrounds: a product sitting in the middle 40% of a big white square is technically compliant on colour and non-compliant on fill. A tight crop, then padding, fixes both.

Tips

  • Crop tight first, then pad to square with the Square Image Maker if the product is long or wide; that keeps the 85% fill and the full product.
  • Use the top anchor for batches of clothing on models so heads are never lost, and centre for flat-lays.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter exact pixel values for the crop?

Yes. The numeric fields accept X, Y, width and height in pixels of the original image, and the handles update to match. Typing 0, 0, 2000, 1500 on a 2000×1500 photo, for example, selects everything; changing the height to 2000 makes a square crop from the top-left.

What does the anchor do in batch mode?

When a ratio is applied to many images the tool has to decide which part to keep. The anchor sets that: centre keeps the middle, top keeps the top edge, and so on. Use top for portraits of people, centre for products shot in the middle of the frame.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

Cropping removes pixels outside the box and leaves the remaining ones untouched, so there is no quality loss. Only the optional output size resamples the image. Export as PNG for lossless results or JPG at quality 90 or higher for listings; the file is re-encoded either way.

Which ratio should I use for Etsy or Amazon?

Etsy crops thumbnails to 4:3, so crop the first listing photo to 4:3 at 2000 px or more on the shortest side. Amazon main images are usually square; crop tight so the product fills at least 85% of the frame, then pad with the Square Image Maker if needed.

Can I crop HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes. HEIC files are decoded in the browser before cropping, along with JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and SVG. The output is JPG, PNG or WebP, which every marketplace accepts, so cropping is also a convenient way to convert iPhone photos in the same step.
