TikTok Shop Product Image Rules & Sizes

TikTok Shop image requirements — square 600–4000 px, white first image, 5 MB limit, 9:16 covers — and how to batch-prepare listings for free.

Updated 2026-09-11 · 7 min read

TikTok Shop is the only major marketplace where your product image competes with a video feed. The same square image appears as a tiny product card pinned to a video, a tile in your shop tab, a thumbnail in search and a full-size photo on the product page. TikTok reviews every listing before it goes live, and text overlays, non-white backgrounds and wrong ratios are the most common reasons for a revision request. Below: the exact sizes, the 5 MB limit, the 9-image allowance, the 9:16 cover, what gets rejected, and a free batch workflow.

TikTok Shop product image requirements

TikTok Shop runs separate regional sites (US, UK, Southeast Asia and more) with broadly the same limits, but details change often, so as of 2026, verify on the official TikTok Shop seller help page for your region.

  • Aspect ratio: square, 1:1. Non-square images are cropped or rejected.
  • Size: between 600 × 600 px and 4000 × 4000 px. 1200 × 1200 px is a good default; 2000 × 2000 px for detail-heavy products.
  • File size: maximum 5 MB per image.
  • Formats: JPG, PNG or WebP.
  • Main image: white background, product centred and filling most of the frame, no text, logos, watermarks or borders.
  • Image count: up to 9 product images per listing, plus one image per variant (SKU).
  • Video cover: 9:16 vertical, 1080 × 1920 px, for shoppable videos and live streams.
  • Style: realistic shots. Heavy filters, exaggerated colours and AI-looking renders hurt trust and can fail review.

TikTok Shop image sizes compared

| Asset | Size | Ratio | Max file | Format | Where it shows | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Main product image | 1200 × 1200 px | 1:1 | 5 MB | JPG | Product card on videos, search, shop tab, product page | | Minimum accepted | 600 × 600 px | 1:1 | 5 MB | JPG, PNG, WebP | Avoid; soft on modern phones | | Variant (SKU) image | 1200 × 1200 px | 1:1 | 5 MB | JPG | Variant selector on the product page | | Shop banner | 1200 × 480 px | 5:2 | 5 MB | JPG | Top of your shop page | | Video cover | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | 5 MB | JPG | Shoppable video and LIVE thumbnails |

Why the product must fill the frame

On the For You feed, the product card attached to a video is under 60 px tall on most phones. A product that occupies 40 percent of a 1200 × 1200 image becomes an unrecognisable dot. Aim for the product filling 80 to 90 percent of the square, centred, with a small even margin.

What gets a TikTok Shop listing rejected or sent for revision

  • Main image not on white: any colour, gradient, lifestyle scene or transparent PNG.
  • Text, prices or promotions on the main image: "50 percent off", "Free shipping", "Best seller" or brand slogans. Secondary images may carry short callouts; keep them minimal.
  • Watermarks, logos and borders: even a small corner logo or thin frame.
  • Blurry or upscaled images: sub-600 px photos stretched to pass the minimum, screenshots or WhatsApp forwards.
  • Image does not match the listing: a different colour, quantity or model than the title and variant.
  • Collages on the main image: comparison grids, before and after shots and bundle mosaics belong in images 2 to 9.
  • Prohibited content: anything against TikTok's community and commerce policies, including some medical claims and age-restricted items.
  • Wrong ratio: a 4:3 phone photo is cropped by the platform, often cutting off part of the product.

Step-by-step: batch-prepare TikTok Shop listings

All of these tools run in your browser and your images are never uploaded, so 200 photos are processed locally in under a minute.

  1. Audit first. Drop the folder into the Image Dimension and Size Checker with the TikTok Shop rule set. It flags anything non-square, under 600 px, over 4000 px, over 5 MB or in the wrong format.
  2. Make the main image white. Run the hero shot through the Background Remover with white output. The on-device model handles hair and fabric edges cleanly.
  3. Square and resize. In the Marketplace Preset Resizer, choose TikTok Shop and the "Product image 1200 × 1200 (white)" preset. It pads to a square without cropping. For lifestyle images 2 to 9 that keep their background, the Square Image Maker pads with a blurred edge instead.
  4. Tighten the crop. If the product sits small in the frame, crop in with the Image Cropper at 1:1 before resizing so the item fills the square.
  5. Correct, do not filter. The Photo Enhancer with auto levels and white balance makes colours true to life. Skip heavy saturation and beauty filters.
  6. Build the video cover. The Social Media Image Resizer with the TikTok 1080 × 1920 preset turns a product shot into a 9:16 cover. Keep the product in the centre third, clear of the caption and button areas.
  7. Compress and strip. The Bulk Image Compressor brings everything under 5 MB (a 1200 × 1200 JPEG is usually 200 to 500 KB), and the EXIF / Metadata Remover removes GPS and device data.
  8. Re-check and upload. Run the final ZIP through the checker again, then upload in order: white hero, angles, close-ups, size reference, in-use shot, packaging.

Common TikTok Shop image mistakes

  • Reusing an Amazon main image at 85 percent fill. It passes, but push the fill higher for TikTok's tiny product cards.
  • Uploading a transparent PNG as the main image. Transparency renders white in some places and grey in others; flatten to white JPEG.
  • Putting price or discount text on the main image. TikTok shows the price and coupon badge automatically.
  • Using a 9:16 lifestyle image as a product image. It is cropped to a square and loses the product.
  • Over-editing. Sharpened, saturated, glow-filtered images look fake next to user videos and lower conversion.
  • Skipping the TikTok Shop platform page, which lists every TikTok Shop preset and tool.

TikTok Shop product image FAQ

How many product images does TikTok Shop allow?

Up to 9 product images per listing, plus one image per variant such as colour or size. Use the first slot for the white hero and the rest for angles, details, scale and packaging; well-filled slots improve the listing quality score TikTok uses in ranking.

Does the TikTok Shop main image need a white background?

Yes. The first image must be on pure white with the product centred and no text, logos, watermarks or borders. Images 2 to 9 can use lifestyle backgrounds. A background remover with white output is the fastest fix for a phone photo.

What size should TikTok Shop product images be?

Square, between 600 × 600 and 4000 × 4000 px, under 5 MB, as JPG, PNG or WebP. 1200 × 1200 px is the sweet spot for sharpness and file size; use 2000 × 2000 for products where buyers zoom into texture or print. Video covers are 1080 × 1920 px at 9:16.

Can I reuse Amazon or Shopify images on TikTok Shop?

Usually yes for the white-background hero, since Amazon's 2000 × 2000 white image meets every TikTok Shop rule. Check that the product fills most of the frame, strip text or badges from secondary images, and keep files under 5 MB. Non-square Shopify images need padding to 1:1 first.
