How to use the Before / After Image Maker

  1. 1Upload the "before" photo, then the "after" photo.
  2. 2Choose a layout: side-by-side, split with a divider, or an animated GIF sweep.
  3. 3Add labels, set the divider position and colour, and pick the output size.
  4. 4Export a PNG or JPG, or download the GIF.

Prove the result instead of describing it

Cleaning sprays, stain removers, skincare, whitening kits, phone screen repairs, furniture restoration, photo retouching services: all of them sell on a promise that something looks better afterwards. A single before after image makes that promise in one glance. The Before / After Image Maker combines two photos into a comparison image in three styles, adds labels, and exports a file you can drop straight into a listing, a Shopify page or a social post.

How it works

  1. Upload the before photo, then the after photo. Shoot both from the same angle and distance; the tool can crop them to the same frame but cannot fix a different camera position.
  2. Pick a layout from the three below.
  3. Add BEFORE and AFTER labels, or your own wording, with font, colour and position controls.
  4. Choose the output size and export.

The three layouts suit different places:

  • Side-by-side places the two photos next to each other with a small gap, the classic format for marketplaces.
  • Split with divider shows one photo with the other revealed on the right of a vertical line. It reads as a single image and works best when the framing is identical.
  • Animated GIF sweep moves the divider across the frame in a loop, so the change plays out on its own.

The first two modes export PNG or JPG; the sweep exports a before after gif encoded entirely in your browser.

Why it matters

Format decides where the image can go. Amazon accepts GIF only if it is not animated, so use side-by-side or split for listing images and keep the GIF for your website and social. eBay and TikTok Shop are the same. Sizes: two 1000 px photos side by side give a 2000 px wide image that meets Amazon's zoom threshold; a split image at 2000×2000 fits Shopify's 2048 recommendation and a 4:3 crop suits Etsy's thumbnail. For Instagram, export at 1080 px wide, and remember stories are 1080×1920. Some Amazon health and beauty categories restrict before and after claims, so read the Amazon product image requirements for your category before using one in the gallery.

Tips

  • Lock exposure and white balance on the camera for both shots. A brighter after photo looks like a filter, not a result.
  • Use the split view when the framing matches exactly; use side-by-side when it does not.
  • Keep labels in a corner, not across the subject. White text with a dark outline reads on any background.
  • Comparing two versions of the same edit rather than two photos? The Image Compare / Diff tool highlights the pixel differences instead.
  • Want more frames, for example a three-step transformation? Build it with the GIF Maker from Images, and lay out multi-photo sets with the Product Collage / Grid Maker.
  • Run both photos through the Photo Enhancer with identical settings if they need brightening, so the comparison stays honest.

Private comparison, no watermark

Everything happens in your browser: both photos, the composite and the GIF encoding. Your images never leave your browser, the export carries no watermark, and there is no account to create. Close the tab and the photos are gone from memory.

Frequently asked questions

Which layout should I use for Amazon?

Side-by-side or split with divider, exported as JPG or PNG at 2000 px on the longest side. Amazon does not accept animated GIFs, and the main image must stay a plain product shot, so place the comparison in a secondary slot. Check your category rules, since some beauty and health categories restrict before and after claims.

How does the animated GIF sweep work?

The tool renders a series of frames in which a divider moves across the image, progressively revealing the after photo, and encodes them into a looping GIF inside your browser. GIFs are ideal for Shopify pages, blogs and social platforms that autoplay them, but marketplaces such as Amazon only accept static images.

Do the two photos need to be the same size?

No, but they should be shot from the same angle. The tool scales and crops both photos to a shared frame so the layout lines up, and photos with different aspect ratios are centred before cropping. Identical framing matters most in split mode, where the two halves have to meet seamlessly.

Can I change the labels?

Yes. The default labels are BEFORE and AFTER, but you can type anything, such as Day 1 and Day 30, or Original and Restored. Set the font, size, colour and corner position for each label, or turn them off entirely if the photos speak for themselves.

Is there a watermark on the export?

No. The PNG, JPG and GIF files are clean and full resolution, with no badge or branding added. If you want to protect the comparison before sharing it, add your own logo with the Watermark Tool as a separate step after exporting.
