Show your design on a real product before you print it

Print-on-demand sellers face a chicken-and-egg problem: you cannot photograph a product you have not printed yet, but you cannot sell it without a photo. Mockup subscriptions solve this for a monthly fee and a watermark until you pay. The Product Mockup Placer is a free mockup generator with built-in vector templates, so you can turn a flat design into a listing-ready product image in under a minute.

How it works

The tool ships with five vector mockups: a t-shirt, a mug, a tote bag, a phone case and a poster. Because they are vectors rather than photos, they render crisp at any size and have no licensing strings attached.

1. Pick a mockup from the gallery.
2. Upload your artwork. A transparent PNG gives the best result; SVG also works.
3. Drag the design to where it should sit, then use the handles or sliders to scale and rotate it. Each template has a print area, so a design placed on a t-shirt stays on the chest rather than floating over the sleeve.
4. Choose a product colour. The tint recolours the garment or ceramic while keeping the highlights and folds, so you can generate a black, navy and heather version from the same file.
5. Export a 2000 px PNG.

Two details make the result look printed rather than pasted. On fabric templates the design uses a multiply blend, which lets the shirt's shading show through the ink exactly as it would in a photo of a real print. On the mug, the artwork is bent along the mug curve so text wraps around the cylinder instead of sitting flat.

Why it matters

The 2000 px export is not an arbitrary number. Amazon recommends 2000 px on the longest side so shoppers can zoom, Etsy wants at least 2000 px on the shortest side, and Shopify's recommended product image is 2048×2048. One export therefore covers every marketplace without upscaling. Etsy allows 10 photos per listing and crops the first one to a 4:3 thumbnail, so a t-shirt mockup with a centred design makes a strong lead image; see the Etsy listing photo requirements. For Amazon, remember that the main image must sit on a pure white background with no text, so use the plain white product colour for image one and save the lifestyle tints for images two to seven, as described on the Amazon platform page.

Tips

• Remove the background from your artwork first with the Background Remover; a white box around a logo breaks the multiply effect.
• Keep the source design at least 1500 px wide. The mockup scales it, and a 400 px logo stretched over a chest print looks soft.
• Export one mockup per colour and combine them into a variant grid with the Product Collage / Grid Maker.
• Add your shop name in a corner with the Watermark Tool before posting mockups to social media, where designs get copied fastest.
• Dark designs on dark garments disappear. Preview the darkest colour you plan to sell before you finalise the artwork.

Nothing is uploaded

The mockups are rendered on an HTML canvas in your browser, and your artwork stays on your machine from the moment you drop it in until you download the PNG. There is no server, no queue and no account. That matters for print-on-demand sellers in particular, because unreleased designs are the one asset a competitor cannot buy elsewhere.
