Barcode Generator
Generate EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128 and ISBN barcodes for product labels. Download PNG or SVG at print resolution. Free, no upload.
How to use the Barcode Generator
- 1Pick the symbology: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, ITF-14, ISBN-13, MSI or Pharmacode.
- 2Type the value; the check digit is added or verified automatically.
- 3Set bar width, height, quiet zone and whether to show the digits.
- 4Check the preview and the size readout in millimetres.
- 5Download PNG at 300 or 600 DPI, or SVG.
Print-ready barcodes for product labels
Every retail product, warehouse shelf and Amazon shipment needs a barcode, and the file has to be right: correct symbology, correct check digit, and enough resolution that a scanner reads it first time. The Barcode Generator draws EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, ITF-14, ISBN-13, MSI and Pharmacode barcodes from the number you type, calculates the check digit for you, and exports PNG or SVG at label resolution.
How it works
- Pick the symbology. The tool tells you how many digits or characters it expects and which are allowed; EAN-13 wants 12 digits plus a check digit, UPC-A 11 plus one, ITF-14 13 plus one, while Code 128 and Code 39 take letters and numbers.
- Type the value. The check digit is computed and appended automatically, or verified if you paste a full 13-digit code, so a typo is flagged before printing.
- Set bar width (the X dimension), height, quiet zone, whether to print the human-readable digits underneath, and colours.
- Check the live preview and the size readout in millimetres at your chosen DPI.
- Download PNG (with DPI set for 300 or 600) or SVG for label software and printers.
Why it matters
- A GTIN is issued, not invented. EAN-13 and UPC-A numbers come from GS1; Amazon checks new listings against the GS1 database and rejects codes bought from resellers. This tool draws the bars for a number you already own.
- GS1 specifies the EAN-13 nominal size as 37.29 mm wide by 25.93 mm tall at 100% magnification, with 80% to 200% permitted. Below 80% many retail scanners fail.
- Amazon FBA labels are Code 128 encoding the FNSKU, printed at a minimum of 300 DPI; the Shopify and Daraz product forms both accept the same EAN or UPC in their barcode field.
- Cartons use ITF-14: 14 digits, thick bearer bars, readable on corrugated board. Books use ISBN-13, which is simply an EAN-13 starting with 978 or 979.
| Symbology | Characters | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| EAN-13 | 13 digits | Retail products worldwide |
| UPC-A | 12 digits | Retail products, North America |
| EAN-8 | 8 digits | Small packages |
| ITF-14 | 14 digits | Shipping cartons |
| Code 128 | Any ASCII | FNSKU, SKU, shipping labels |
| Code 39 | A to Z, 0 to 9, a few symbols | Inventory, badges |
| ISBN-13 | 13 digits, 978 or 979 | Books |
Tips
- Never scale a PNG barcode in a label editor; export at the size and DPI you will print, or use SVG.
- Black bars on white. Coloured or reversed barcodes scan poorly, and red bars are invisible to many laser scanners.
- Leave the quiet zone at the default. A barcode printed right up to an edge or across a fold will not read.
- Test with a phone scanner app and, if you can, a real retail scanner before printing a thousand labels.
- For a sheet of SKU codes from a spreadsheet, use Bulk QR / Barcode from CSV. Lay out a page of labels with Image to PDF / PDF to Images, add a SALE badge or price tag with the Meme / Label Maker, and for links rather than product IDs use the QR Code Generator.

Your images never leave your browser. Bars, check digits and exports are all generated on your own device; your GTINs and SKUs are not sent to any server or stored anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Can I generate an EAN-13 for a new product here?
The tool draws the barcode for a number you already have. GTINs such as EAN-13 and UPC-A must be licensed from GS1; Amazon verifies them against the GS1 database and rejects invented or reseller codes. For internal use, Code 128 with your own SKU is fine.
Does it calculate the check digit?
Yes. Enter the first 12 digits of an EAN-13, 11 of a UPC-A or 13 of an ITF-14 and the check digit is appended automatically. Paste a full code and it is verified instead, so a mistyped digit is caught before you print labels.
Which barcode does Amazon FBA use?
FNSKU labels are Code 128 encoding the FNSKU, printed at 300 DPI or higher on white labels. Select Code 128, type the FNSKU, keep the human-readable text switched on, and export PNG at 300 DPI or SVG for your label printer.
What size should a retail barcode be printed?
GS1 defines the EAN-13 nominal size as 37.29 by 25.93 mm at 100%, with 80% to 200% allowed; 80% is 29.83 mm wide. Keep the quiet zones, print black on white, and avoid placing the code across a fold or a curved surface.
PNG or SVG for labels?
SVG whenever your label software or printer accepts it, because the bars stay perfectly crisp at any size. If you need PNG, export at 300 or 600 DPI at the final print size and never scale it afterwards; resampling bars is the most common cause of unreadable labels.
