How to use the Image Upscaler

  1. 1Drop the image you want to enlarge.
  2. 2Choose 2× or 4×; the model downloads once and is cached.
  3. 3Wait for tiled processing to finish and compare with the original.
  4. 4Download as PNG or JPG.

Supplier photos are often 500 or 800 px, screenshots from a catalogue are smaller still, and old product shots were fine for a 2015 storefront but not for a 2026 zoom viewer. Stretching them with a normal resizer produces a blurry mess. The Image Upscaler is an AI upscaler that runs a super-resolution network on your own device to increase image resolution by 2× or 4× while reconstructing edges, text and texture instead of smearing them. It is the rare upscale image free tool with no credits and no watermark.

How it works

  1. Drop an image (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC).
  2. Choose or . The first time you use each scale the tool downloads the Swin2SR model once, about 8 MB for 2× and about 20 MB for 4×, and your browser caches it.
  3. Wait for the progress bar; the image is processed in tiles so even a large photo fits in memory, and each tile is blended with its neighbours to avoid seams.
  4. Compare the result against the original and download as PNG for the best quality or JPG for a smaller file.

If your device cannot run the model, for instance a very old phone without WebAssembly SIMD, the tool falls back to a classic Lanczos-style upscale so you still get a usable file. A 1000×1000 input becomes 2000×2000 at 2× and 4000×4000 at 4×; the 4× path is far more demanding, so the tool warns before attempting very large inputs.

Why it matters

Every marketplace has a minimum resolution, and zoom is where conversions are won.

PlatformZoom or minimum requirement
AmazonAt least 1000 px on the longest side for zoom, 2000 px recommended
eBay500 px minimum, 1600 px for zoom
EtsyAt least 2000 px on the shortest side
Shopify2048×2048 recommended, 800 px minimum
Daraz330×330 minimum, 1000×1000 recommended

A 500 px supplier image upscaled 4× reaches 2000 px, which meets every row in that table. Upscaling does not invent detail that was never captured, but for a clean product on a plain background the difference from a bicubic resize is dramatic.

Tips

  • Upscale before cropping and padding, not after; the model works best on the original pixels.
  • Use 2× on photos that are already 1000 px or more; 4× on tiny thumbnails only, and inspect text and logos for artefacts.
  • Export PNG if you will edit further, then produce the final JPG with the Bulk Image Compressor or the Amazon Product Image Resizer.
  • Run the Photo Enhancer afterwards for a little sharpening and white balance; do not sharpen before upscaling.
  • Remove the background with the Background Remover after upscaling, when the edges are cleaner and the mask has more pixels to work with.
  • If you only need the file bigger and not sharper, the Bulk Image Resizer is instant and handles hundreds of files.

Privacy

The super-resolution model runs on-device through onnxruntime in your browser. Your images never leave your browser, there are no credits, no watermarks and no queue.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the model download?

About 8 MB for the 2× model and about 20 MB for the 4× model. Each is downloaded from this site the first time you use that scale and cached by your browser, so later sessions do not download again. Your images are never part of that transfer.

Which images benefit most from AI upscaling?

Clean product shots on plain backgrounds, logos, packaging and screenshots with text. The model reconstructs edges and repeating textures well. Noisy, heavily compressed or blurred photos improve less, and sometimes the artefacts get enlarged too; use the Photo Enhancer's denoise before upscaling those.

Is there a maximum input size?

There is a practical limit set by your device's memory. Processing is tiled, so a 2000 px image at 2× works on most laptops; 4× on large images may take minutes or exceed memory on phones. The tool warns when the output would be very large.

What happens if the model cannot run on my device?

The tool falls back automatically to a classic high-quality resampling upscale, so you still receive a file at the requested size. Quality is lower than the AI result but better than a plain browser resize. A message tells you which method was used.

Should I export PNG or JPG?

Export PNG if you plan further edits such as background removal or padding, because it is lossless. Export JPG at quality 90 or higher for direct marketplace upload; a 2000×2000 upscaled JPG usually lands between 500 KB and 1.5 MB, well within every platform's limit.
